More facts have emerged on why former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu, Interim National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) and erstwhile governor of Osun State Chief Bisi Akande boycotted the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party .
Their absence was not based on illness or permission by the authorities of the party. A member of the National Working Commit­tee (NWC) who was at the meeting said the former Lagos State governor was aware that there were plans to humiliate him and his henchmen.
“Tinubu knew that some people were pre­pared to fight him. He would have been hu­miliated by some people”, the official said.
He disclosed that the earlier arrangement was to engage him in a brawl and compel him to leave the venue of the meeting in an­ger. “Those who were to humiliate him were on ground but his absence saved the day”, the APC chieftain added.
He stated that the party leadership, sensing how rancorous the meeting may be , tinkered with the idea of barring journalists from cov­ering it.
According to him, the earlier plans were that photojournalists would be given five to 10 minutes to take pictures of the opening session and leave the scene.
He said “we tinkered with the plans of barring journalists from covering the event. We knew that anything could happen but we didn’t want to be ridiculed in the public.”
Prior to the NEC meeting, he disclosed that APC governors had met for some hours at the Imo Lodge, Asokoro to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the National Assembly . The meeting, he said , recorded some successes but could not address all the issues.
“The governors held a meeting on Thurs­day and brought some good news to the NEC meeting ,” he said
On what transpired at the meeting which started at 11 am and ended a little before 1pm , the APC chieftain said “the meeting was brief. The absence of Tinubu meant that we focused on few issues.”
“After a welcome speech by the Nation­al Chairman, the President read his speech. The problem bedeviling the party was tabled. We agreed that governors should continue from where they stopped.
“We looked at some allegations against the national chairman and many people believed that he was not guilty of those things they said he did. We decided to pass a vote of confi­dence on him. We commended Mr President on how far he has handled the affairs of the nation”, he added.
After the meeting, the trio of Oyegun, Sen­ate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Hon Yakubu Dogara were happy. Saraki said: “You can see from the smiles on everybody’s face. It is a good way to go.”
Imo State governor and Chairman APC Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha said “Many people think that there will be problems between APC members at this meeting. But I am assuring Nigerians that we have met and discussed what affects all of us and we have understood ourselves. We have also reiterated our support and loyalty for our leadership.
“We are also going to meet on the issue of the National Assembly crisis and it will be re­solved amicably. So, I can confidently say that the crisis facing the party is almost over now.”
Giving insight into all that happened, Na­tional Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Muhammad said:”NEC has provided an en­abling environment to look into ways of re­solving the National Assembly logjam. Later in the day, the governors will be meeting with the Speaker and the Senate President in a fur­ther attempt to find lasting solution to the lin­gering logjam at the National Assembly.
“Also, it is important to let you know that everybody in the party is united on two issues which are party supremacy and the need to ensure that this government delivers its cam­paign promises.” When asked whether the leadership of the Senate and House of Rep­resentatives will now consider the position of the party on the selection of principal officers in both chambers of the National Assembly, Mohammed said “I have told you that the NEC has provided a platform to resolve this issue and part of the resolution is the meet­ing that will be held today (Friday) between the governors, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The president said he believes in party supremacy, we have a problem on our hands and we must find the best means to resolve it. One thing I can assure you is that, this house (the APC) shall not fall.”
Asked to comment on when to draw a line between party’s supremacy and the sanctity of the country’s constitution in the selection of principal officers at the National Assembly, Mohammed said “the less I said about this logjam the better, it’ll not be for only this par­ty but the whole nation. It is for the interest of everyone who voted for change. I would not want to go into the knitty gritty of what the resolution will be because as I speak for now I don’t know. When you talk about par­ty’s supremacy, it is derived from the constitu­tion.” On why notable chieftains of the party like Bola Tinubu and Bisi Akande were ab­sent from the meeting, he said invitation to the meeting was at the discretion of the NWC on who to invite or not and it is not out of respect to question why they are not here but the bot­tom line is that neither of them are members of the exco of the party.”
Meanwhile, a detailed picture of how the National Chairman of All Progressives Con­gress (APC) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun sur­vived plots to oust him as the boss of the party at yesterday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party has emerged.
The high profile meeting , the first since the party’s victory in the March 28 presidential poll took place at the APC national secretariat, Wuse, Abuja. It was graced by President Mu­hammadu Buhari, Governors and other top leaders of the ruling party .
While the meeting was eagerly looked out for by other chieftains of the party, it was not the same for the embattled national chairman whose fate was to be decided at the August gathering.
“Some people wanted to use the meeting to remove him as chairman . The plots have been on since after the election of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara “, a chieftain of the party who pleaded anonymity said .
It was gathered that chieftain of the party loyal to the national leader and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu were in the forefront of the move to shove Oyegun aside .
The source said “ those loyal to Senator Tinubu believe that it was time for Oyegun to go. They were not happy with him over the way he handled the National Assembly leadership matter. They thought they could mobilise enough support to force him to tender his resignation before or during the NEC meeting”.
Even Oyegun last Friday at a meeting with South East,South South Professional disclosed the pressure he was going through in the hands of some powerful forces in the party.
He said “There is nothing they have not said about me but when you ask what has the man done, one of their reports said the present executive can not win us elections in 2019. Good Lord! You’ve not even finished with 2015, you’re talking about 2019. They also talked about the elite of the North against the people of the south west, am I from the North, am I the one organising them?”
That the national chairman survived the orchestrated plots to remove him, according to the party chieftain, was by the grace of henchmen of President Buhari and that of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
It was gathered that the President’s men felt that Oyegun had not committed any offence to deserve being asked to resign . They believed that the allegation of being bribed by the Senate President Dr Saraki, one of the reasons adduced by proponents of his removal was not true.
According to the source, Buhari’s men know that former Lagos State governor and his men want Oyegun out because they didn’t succeed in “encircling the President with Tinubu’s men”.
He said “the President’s men refused to buy into the campaign that the National Chairman was compromised by Saraki. They didn’t see any evidence to that effect. Rather they believe that those who want him out were angry that that their agenda of encircling the president failed.
“They were angry that Oyegun was called up at 4am by forces from Lagos to do a dirty job. They even dropped the name of the President in all those dirty jobs. Instead of apologising to Mr President for lying with his name they are insisting that the National Chairman must go.”
He said the party should be “happy that PDP did not elect one of its own senate president. Saraki saved the party because there was nothing we would have done if they had elected one of their own as senate president. They formed a quorum, we were lucky that it did not go into their head to elect one of their own as senate president. And the mistake was because somebody in his desperation to have everything lied that the President called a meeting and took our lawmakers to a place they were not supposed to be.”
On the side of Atiku’s loyalists, it was gathered that they were against the removal of Oyegun because they were determined to cut Tinubu to size.
The source said “the other tendency which is loyal to the former Vice President does not want the structure of the party changed. It is against allowing Tinubu to take everything or call the shot in APC. It believes that the Vice President is a product of Tinubu and that should be enough for him.”
He continued “both Buhari’s men and that of Atiku worked together to save Oyegun. However, I don’t think the fight is over, it may be the beginning”.

Nigerians especially those from the Southern part of the country on Friday, expressed concern over the appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari.
They said the appointments were lopsided and not in the best interest of the country.
President Buhari is from Katsina State, Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, are from Kwara and Bauchi states respectively. The judiciary is led by Justice Mahmud Mohammed from Taraba State.
Of the nine appointments made by Buhari so far, eight are from the North, while one is from the South. The appointments are: Director-General of the State Services, Lawal Daura, Katsina State; Acting Chairman, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari, Jigawa State; Director, the Department of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Mordecai Danteni Baba Ladan; and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Kano State.
Others are the State Chief of Protocol, Mallam Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure; Aide De Camp, Lt.-Col. Muhammed Lawal Abubakar, Kano State; Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu; and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, South-West.
The appointments, however, drew the ire of Nigerians who asked Buhari to respect the country’s principle of federal character.
Already, the Internet, particularly the social media and blogs, are agog with reactions and counter-reactions on the matter.
A commentator named Daamazing, on Nairaland, Nigeria’s largest discussion forum, accused Buhari of appointing only Northerners into key positions announced so far.
The enraged citizen said in pidgin, “After all your mumu promises, one thing you’ve not achieved, na to dey appoint all the people for your family tree, dey do tourism up and down. (After all your promises, you’ve not achieved anything. All you have done is to appoint your kinsmen and travel all around the world).”
Another commentator identified simply as Augster, said, “Buhari, don’t let those who voted for you down because your appointment of only Northerners into top positions is baffling us.”
SenseiX, another Nairaland commentator, said it was wrong for Buhari to have brought Daura, the acting DSS DG, from retirement to head the agency when there were qualified persons from other regions of the country still in service.
He said, “He ignored the entire senior cadre of the agency- from Bassey Eteng to the least- simply because they are Southerners. Even if he wanted to pick a a Northerner, he should have picked from the service rather than a 62-year-old retiree, whose only qualification is being Buhari’s kinsman, who was in the DSS. When former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Ekpenyong, he was already a Director of Operations, same for Gadzama, who was appointed by Umaru Yar’Adua.”
As of the time of filing this report, the story- Buhari sacks DG DSS, service chiefs may go- had been read by 30,722 Nigerians on the PUNCH website, some of who expressed anger over the development.
A reader named as Ify, said, “In as much as I do not subscribe to ethnic sentiments, I am sensitive to the malaise of ethnic distrust in the country. A wise leader would therefore, thread cautiously around this landmine. We must patiently navigate our way out of ethnic bias.
“Let me also point out that Nigeria’s strength is derived from her diversity, therefore, any government that wishes to succeed must draw from our diversity, and not limit itself to the talents from one region alone.”
Another reader, Omoyooba, said, “In a multi-ethnic and multi-religious Nigeria, it is insensitive of him to be making appointments made up of Northern Muslims. What of the Christians and the Southerners? President Muhammadu Buhari should know that former President Goodluck Jonathan started with greater goodwill than this in 2011 and he ran it aground in four years. Buhari should not make the same mistake. Nigeria belongs to everybody.”
On Facebook, Fidelis Anumole-Oparaku, who was apparently disappointed with the situation, said the President’s ministerial appointments would not be much better.
He said, “Because he lacks the power to do so with ministerial appointments, he will likely give key positions to Northern Muslims, then the soft ones will be given to Northern Christians and the South.”
Like the online community, prominent groups in the South-West – Afenifere, Yoruba Unity Forum and the Movement for Oodua Republic – said this kind of lopsided appointments had never happened in the political history of the country.
While describing the President’s actions as worrisome, the YUF Secretary-General, Senator Anthony Adefuye, warned that the earlier the situation was reversed, the better, adding that the YUF would not expect the North to marginalise the South.
He said, “The fact that the President, Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives are from the North is worrisome. There is no way the North can take all the principal offices and leave the deputy to us. It has never happened before and the earlier it is reverted, the better.
“There is no way that can continue because the South is not subordinate to the North. The think tank committee of the YUF will meet soon to look at the issue and see how it affects the Yoruba people. However, the development is a wrong signal that must be corrected.”
While calling on Southerners to be patient and watch events unfold, Adefuye said no region could be a subordinate of the other.
“What is more worrisome is that the immediate past INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, handed over to a Southerner but the Presidency changed it to a Northerner. We are watching and waiting to see what comes out of this new government.”
Adefuye added, “Southerners are always careful and concerned not to marginalise the North. Therefore, I will not expect the North to marginalise the South now that the Presidency is shifted to the region.”
The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, said the group was watching the President’s actions and taking note of them.
Odumakin, who spoke with one of our correspondents on Friday, said, “We have taken a position in Afenifere to watch the President’s actions before we begin to make comments. By the time we have a clearer picture of what is happening in the first 100 days of the President in office, we are certainly going to make a comprehensive statement.”
Also, the leader of MOR, Mr. George Akinola, said the country was heading towards total conflict should the situation continue.
He said, “The country has already been divided along religious lines. The fault lines are there and will always be there. This will continue until a time when one way or the other a conference or a referendum happens. There is no option that is not on the table but at least we will prefer the path of peace.”
Representing the interest of the South-Eastern people, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey, asked the President to respect the principle of federal character in his appointments.
Enwo-Igariwey said, “We expect the President to recognise other nationalities that make up Nigeria. Elections are over, it is time for governance. We expect that the principle of federal character, which is constitutional, should be respected.
“It is important that in making his appointments, the President should recognise that there are six geo-political zones in the country and it is imperative that he carries all of them along in the spirit of nation building and as a statesman.”
The Igbo World Union and the Ohanaeze Youth Council described the President’s actions as a threat to the corporate existence of Nigeria.
The OYC National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said, “Buhari should not abuse his privileged position as the President of Nigeria for the moment. He should not forget our federal system but reflect the federal character in his appointments.
“We are warning him to drop the Northern agenda and govern Nigeria in line with the constitution which he sworn to protect. We will hold him by his statement that ‘he is for nobody and for everybody ‘ except he now wants to tell us that he is the President of the North alone.”
According to Isiguzoro, Buhari’s actions demonstrate that he came to power to reverse the positive steps made by Jonathan, who gave consideration to Nigeria’s ethnic plurality in his appointments.
“Jonathan appointed Northerners as his National Security Adviser, Defence Minister, Inspector-General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff etc. But so far, Buhari has shown us that he has no regard for other parts of the country.”
In his reaction, the President-General of Igbo World Union, Dr. Mishak Nnanta, asked the President not to succumb to any ill- advice from individuals with parochial interest.
The National President of Njiko Igbo Forum, Reverend Okechukwu Obioha, warned Buhari against running what he described as a “Northern government.”
Obioha expressed the fear that the trend, if left unchecked, could destroy the country.
He said, “Buhari is simply running a Northern government. He is making his appointments as if he is angry with other sections of the country. The appointments are lopsided in favour of the North and that is not acceptable.”

Akume, Saraki, Lawan, Dogara, Gbajabiamila resolve differences

THE LEADERSHIP CRI­SIS ROCKING THE NATIONAL ASSEM­BLY HAS BEEN RE­SOLVED , ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS(APC) GOVER­NORS ANNOUNCED YESTER­DAY.
Speaking after a mara­thon meeting between the governors and all parties in the National Assembly crisis, Imo State Gover­nor and Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum Chief Rochas Okorocha, said the parties have agreed to work together.
Present at the meeting include, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, House of Representatives Speak­er, Hon Yakubu Dogara, Sen Ahmed Lawan,Sen George Akume, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, S Hon Pally Iriase , scores of sen­ators and Reps members and all APC governors.
It was the first time all the warring parties in­volved in the National As­sembly crisis would meet since the crisis broke out.
Addressing newsmen, elated Okorocha said, “We are aware that the nation has been waiting patient­ly for the outcome of this peace move. I am happy to announce to all of you that peace at the National As­sembly is at sight. We have had discussion and we have all agreed to accept peace, so you will not see any more disagreements as in the past. Peace has returned to our party.
“Both the Senate Presi­dent, the Speaker, Sanator Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila will work together for the unity of the National Assembly and the progress of our par­ty. By next week, we will give you the details of this our peace arrangement but so far, so good”.
Pressed to give details of the agreement between the two camps in the two cham­bers , Okorocha declined insisting that the party will announce the terms of the agreement soon.
However, a Rep mem­ber who was at the meet­ing claimed that it was agreed that Gbajabiamila will be named the Major­ity Leader. He said: “Some concessions were made by the parties. What is certain as regards the House is that Gbajabiamila will be the Majority Leader”.

Senator Ogola advocates for amendment of tax laws for the rich

Senate commences action on immigration billThe Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Foster Ogola has called for the amendment of tax laws to make the rich pay for the poor.
While speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja, he explained that the current tax laws operative in Nigeria were obsolete and not in tandem with modern reality.
He stressed that there was need for the rich to pay tax that would be used in servicing expenses incurred by the poor, adding that in such way, the system would be balanced and fair to all.
However, he explained that this should be without prejudice to the rich.
He expressed optimism that the 8th National Assembly, especially the Senate would be supportive in that direction whenever it is approached by the Federal Inland Revenue Service or any other appropriate agency.
On multiplication of taxation in the country, he advised that tax laws should be harmonized in line with the global best practices in tax collection so as not to overburden tax payers.
According to him, it should be structured in a manner that their would not be conflict of payment of taxes among the three tiers of government.
He noted that this could be possible through legislative instruments, which the 8th Assembly was ready to bring to bear.
He called on the Federal Inland Revenue Services and other public enlightenment agencies to educate its citizens on issues of tax payment, while describing the culture of evading tax payment as a disservice to the nation.

Buhari Set To Sack All Military Chiefs, Meet New SSS Boss


President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday sacked the Director General of the Department of State Service, Mr. Ita Ekpenyong. Director of Communications in the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Haruna Imrana, announced the appointment of Lawal Musa Daura as acting DG.

Also, President Buhari is set to sack the service chiefs. Presidency sources told Punch that all the service chiefs would be relieved of their appointments before the end of July.

Mr. President is said to be considering leaving the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.

The service chiefs to go are the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu.

You may wish to know that the new DG of DSS, who attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 1977 to 1980, started his career in the State Security Service in 1982 and rose to the rank of a director.

He was at one time the Deputy Director, Presidential Communications, Command and Control Centre, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, between 2003 and 2007.

Daura also served as State Director, Security Service, at various times for states like Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo.

He attended various professional courses, both at home and abroad, including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru. Daura was born in Daura on August 5,1953.

It will be recalled that the DSS had in January said that it had uncovered lists containing names and photos of security personnel, foreigners and under-aged kids on the registered members’ list of the APC.

But the APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had stated, “We have always warned that our democracy is in clear and present danger, not just from desperate politicians, but also from institutions of state that have compromised in their roles and resorted to crass lawlessness. The DSS’ ‘findings’ today have given us another reason to repeat this warning.”

Benue’s Striking Unions Receive Salaries, Lower Demands, Set To Call Off

The incessant strikes plaguing Benue State University may be witnessing it’s twilight as BENUE.COM.NG can confirm members of the striking unions in Benue State University which include the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU and Association of Resident Doctors, ARD have started receiving their salaries.
A high ranking member of ASUU who spoke to our correspondent under anonymity said their colleagues in zenith bank must have received theirs late yesterday and they also learnt that other banks were processing their payments, however they are not sure of the number of months paid.
We reported one week ago that ASUU lecturers were insisting on at least 3 months salaries, but our sources have now revealed that the lecturers have lowered their demands to two months.
We’ve also gathered that the government is aware of the new developments and is prepared to meet with the lecturers’ demands to ensure they return to work.
“We acknowledge the effort of the Governor and I think we’ll consider two months but one month will be difficult to convince the congress. The Governor is aware of it”, our source said.
Meanwhile, other Benue workers have received one month salary.

Meet President Buhari's Nine Appointees and their brief Profile

While many Nigerians have been clamoring for President Muhammadu Buhari to appointment all his ministers since he assumed office on May 29, the former Head of State has only named some key personnel.

Many believe, in the coming days, the president would announce more appointments.
Naij.com, however, brings to you the appointments made so far:

1. Femi Adesina (SSA)

Femi Adesina is the Senior Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the president. Adesina is the current President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and serves as the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspapers.He is a pioneer staff of The Sun newspaper where he became the editor, and later the managing director and editor-in-chief, a position he will be quitting for the new position.

2.Lt. Col Mohammed Abubakar – (ADC )



President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Aide De Camp, ADC. He is a Lt. Col. Muhammed Lawal Abubakar from Kano state.An ADC is a personal assistant or secretary to a person of high rank, usually a senior military, government officer, or Head of State. Lawal Abubakar will be supervising the president’s security details.
3.Lawal Kazaure -State Chief of Protocol 

President Muhammadu Buhari appoints Malam Lawal Kazaure as his State Chief of Protocol (SCOP) .Abdullahi Kazaure is a career Foreign Service official and currently serves in Aso Rock Villa as a Special Assistant (Presidential Matters)
4. Abdulrahman Mani – CSO 


Abdulrahman Mani was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as his new chief security officer (CSO) before his inauguration as president.  He is an operative of the Department of Security Service (DSS). Mani’s appointment also came with accelerated promotion by the secret service.
Mani was deployed by the DSS as a security detail to Buhari in 2011 weeks before he launched his campaign that year.


5.  Ahmed Idris – Account-General of Federation

Ahmed Idris who hails from Kano State, was born on November 25, 1960 and was until this appointment, was the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
6.  Mordecai Ladan – Director, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR)
Mordecai was born on the June 24, 1957 and is married with children. Ladan is a Petrochemist by profession, who joined DPR in Novermber 23, 1987 as a Senior Analytical Chemist. He has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria July 1982; West African School Certificate from the Federal Government College, Kano June 1978. He also bagged M.Sc. Petrochemicals & Hydrocarbon Chemistry from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology, UK March 1986. He later became the Head, Safety, Health and Environment Division in May 2014 until his recent appointment as Director,  Department of Petroleum Resources. He is replacing  Mr George Osahon, whose tenure elapsed on June 19.


7. Mrs. Amina Zakari –  INEC ag. Chairman

President, Mahammadu Buhari appointed Amina Zakari as the acting chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission on June 30,2015
Amina Bala Zakari, a pharmacist by profession hails from Jigawa State. She completed her Secondary Education from the prestigious Queens College Yaba, Lagos. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.sc) degree in Pharmacy with Second Class upper (Best Graduating Student) in 1980 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
She had her National Youth Service Programme at the Federal University of Technology, Bauchi between 1981 -1982, where she set up a Pharmacy and Drug Store Dispensary as her service year project.
She then moved into the consultancy field to serve in various capacities as a consultant in Health and Social Services from 1997 up till her appointment as National Commissioner, INEC.

Garba Shehu served as the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. He was the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors sixteen years ago

BREAKING: Buhari sacks SSS Director General, appoints replacement


President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Director General of the State Security Service, Ita Ekpenyong.
In his place, the President appointed Lawal Daura as new head of the agency, which serves as Nigeria’s secret police.
The removal of Mr. Ekpenyong and appointment of his replacement was announced Thursday by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, via a statement by the Director of Communications in his office, Haruna Imrana.
According to the statement, Mr. Daura was born in Daura on the August, 5, 1953.
He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1977 – 1980.
He started his carrier in the State Security Service in 1982 and rose to the rank of Director.
He was at one time the Deputy Director, Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre, at the Presidential Villa Abuja between 2003 and 2007.
He also served as State Director of Security Service at various times in Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo States.
He attended various professional courses both home and abroad including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Kuru.
The appointment is with immediate effect, the statement said.
The removal of Mr. Ekpenyong has long been expected.
Under him, the SSS became openly partisan, especially in the run-up to the 2015 general elections.
Rather than gathering intelligence necessary to make the country safe, the agency busied itself more with harassing and arresting opposition figures, ransacking firms and offices with ties to the All Progressives Congress and appearing on television to disparage opposition politicians and their party.
On July 25, 2014, operatives of the SSS descended on the corporate headquarters of TNS-RMS, a Lagos-based research agency, holding its staff hostage, ransacking its offices and premises and whisking away three of its personnel.
The company’s offence was that it was, at the time, conducting an opinion poll on the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun state. The SSS struck because it got intelligence that the poll would indicate that Rauf Aregbesola of the APC would win the election. Mr. Aregbesola later won that election.
On November 21, 2014, the agency raided the APC data centre in Lagos, arresting its staffs and accusing the party of “cloning INEC Permanent Voters Card with the intention of hacking into INEC data base, corrupting it and replacing them with their own data”. The SSS is yet to prove that allegation till date.
The SSS also consistently disparaged the APC in the media, accusing the party and its leaders of being behind the deadly Boko Haram insurgency.
And after the Osun election, the agency’s spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, rushed to the media, claiming that some opposition APC politicians offered the Service’s personnel 14 million naira bribe.
The SSS is yet to substantiate that allegation and no one has been charged to court for bribery.
