Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has brought Orlu Dickson Pawa, the police officer who was Governor Gabriel Suswam's ADC back to Benue Peoples House.
Pawa had resigned his position as a result of the frosty relationship between him and his principal.
It was widely believed that part of the disagreement was on account of the officer's open support for Ortom's governorship aspiration which Dr Suswam didn't subscribe to.
The police posted Pawa back to Lagos where he was serving before his appointment as ADC.
Governor Ortom requested the services of Pawa as his Chief Security Officer, CSO, and the Inspector General obliged.
The former ADC has also been promoted from Deputy Superintendent of Police to Superintendent.
One of the first assignments which Ortom performed after he was sworn in was to decorate Pawa with his new rank.
The First Lady, Chief Mrs Eunice Erdoo Ortom assisted with the decoration.
Buhari appoints Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu as spokesperson
President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the first set of appointments into his administration.
The President on Sunday evening, May 31, 2015 named Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu as his spokesmen. Femi Adesina will serve as Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) while Garba Shehu will be the new Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity).
The President has also approved the appointment of Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the State Chief of Protocol (SCOP).
Mr. Adesina is the current President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, and serves as the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspapers.
Garba Shehu served as the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. He was the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors sixteen years ago.
Abdullahi Kazaure is a career Foreign Service official and currently serves in Aso Rock Villa as a Special Assistant (Presidential Matters).

The resident said the gunmen also attacked the local government secretariat, the magistrate court and the Divisional Police station.

Asari-Dokubo explains why Jonathan lost presidential election

Former Niger-Delta militant leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has said the 2015 general elections were the most rigged in Nigeria.
He spoke on Sunday in Owerri, where he graced the Biafra Day celebration.
He said figures clearly showed differnet levels of manipulation.
“The elections were not free and fair. Also, the stage was set to manipulate the elections”, he said.
Dokubo blamed the activities of Boko Haram insurgents on leaders from the Northern section of the country, mostly the Northern Muslims.
He recalled that the elites in the zone vowed to make the polity unstable and ungovernable for ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan.
He, however, blamed Jonathan’s loss on the use of card readers.
“Our brother, Goodluck Jonathan refused to listen to us. To him, the life of any Nigerian was not worth his election or ambition.
“For us, that was an abdication of his duties as President because we were also involved in the elections and we wanted a free and fair elections”, Dokubo said.
He wondered why Jonathan, who could not vote even after four card readers were used, did not stop the election.
“That was the time Dr. Jonathan ought to have taken action and stopped the fraud that INEC called an election.
“He did not do it. It was in the middle of a crucial match that the referee, Professor Attahiru Jega , who is from the same place with Muhammadu Buhari, issued a statement that if card readers cannot confirm your finger prints, then you can go on and vote”.

The Commander of Onitsha Military Cantonment of the Nigerian Army, Mohammed Bello, says his command plans to revive the Onitsha Cantonment Boxing competition.
According to him, this will aim at keeping youth within the barracks and environs away from involvement in crimes and other vices.
Mr. Bello, a Colonel, told journalists on Sunday in Onitsha that the upcoming competition for youth and men would target those currently using the cantonment’s boxing facilities for their training.
The commander, who said that the competition would feature all internationally acknowledged weight categories, noted that the event would run from June 6 to July 5.
He said that the competition would also foster understanding among those residing within the cantonment and the environs.
“It will strengthen the existing military-civil relationship. It will provide the civil populace opportunity to appreciate the military better.
“It will help us to channel the energies of most youths in the cantonment and the environs properly by helping to them to stay off engaging in criminality and other vices like participating in communal clashes.
“In the competition we will as is the practice, match people of same weight, height and stamina to get the best,’’ Bello said.
The commander, who described boxing as a traditional sport of the military, added that before passing out from any military training, one must take lessons in boxing.
“Before you go through any military academy or institution, you must go through boxing; which toughens you and makes you physically fit and mentally alert,’’ he said.
Mr. Bello also said the cantonment had the best boxing coaches around as well as medical facilities to take care of possible injuries.
“We have the best coaches in the cantonment and they have been grooming a lot of budding champions; with the presence of these coaches and a lot of talents; we decided to key into the revival this competition,’’ he said.
A week ago“the Commander’s Cup” for men’s football competition was hosted in the cantonment. Not less than eight teams participated in the eight-week competition.
In the final of the competition; Barca FC, Barracks defeated the NYSC Fidder Team via a lone goal to lift the trophy.

U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, breaks leg following bicycle accident

The U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, was on Sunday in Geneva flown to a hospital with a broken leg following a bicycle accident in the French Alps.
The spokesperson at the U.S. mission in Geneva disclosed that the secretary had broken his leg.
Kerry’s Spokesperson, John Kirby, also confirmed that 71-year-old Mr. Kerry was taken by helicopter to Geneva University Hospital, where he was conscious and in stable condition with a leg injury.
He said the accident occurred in Scionzier, a town near the border with Switzerland, around 9.40 a.m.
Mr. Kirby said the secretary was attended to by a physician and paramedics travelling in his motorcade.
Mr. Kerry had conducted talks on Saturday in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Zarif, as part of ongoing efforts to forge a comprehensive agreement about Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme ahead of a June 30 deadline.
He had been due to fly to Madrid later on Sunday to meet with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and King Felipe VI. on Tuesday.
Mr. Kerry was also scheduled to travel to Paris to hold talks with counterparts from the countries participating in the military coalition targeting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

Mr. Kerry had conducted talks on Saturday in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Zarif, as part of ongoing efforts to forge a comprehensive agreement about Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme ahead of a June 30 deadline.
He had been due to fly to Madrid later on Sunday to meet with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and King Felipe VI. on Tuesday.
Mr. Kerry was also scheduled to travel to Paris to hold talks with counterparts from the countries participating in the military coalition targeting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

He made the declaration during his inauguration last Friday at the IBB Square in Makurdi.
“We call on all unlawfully armed persons who have been terrorizing innocent citizens to immediately surrender their arms, be free and get integrated into our reform program, or we shall pursue them down to their holes,” he stressed.
“We will also move decisively against those of our youths and their patrons who have chosen a living out of unbridled acts of terror and thuggery as government will no longer be a shield for these youths and those who patronize them.”
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment also pledged to tackle the perennial herders and farmers conflict with legislation as a long term measure.
“We will do everything possible to contain attacks on our people by criminal gangs and herdsmen. We will through appropriate legislation, encourage those with livestock in the state to keep them on ranches as a way of forestalling incessant clashes with farmers,” Mr Ortom stated.
He also announced the renaming of Government House and dropping of all his titles.
“To eliminate that distance between the government and the people, the seat of Government in Benue State will no longer be called Government House but Benue Peoples House,” he stated.
“This, we believe will serve as a constant reminder that we hold our positions of authority in trust for the people and that the people are more important than anything else in a democracy.”
According to him, “If we must run a government in which everybody is involved; a peoples government, we must put aside personal advantage so that we can feel the pains and see the promise of Benue, it is in this regard that I wish to drop all my titles preferring to be addressed as Samuel Ortom.”
He said he would sustain what his predecessor did right but will boldly correct the wrongs even as he promised to punish corrupt officials and recover stolen government property.
The former Minister listed good governance and revenue security, agriculture-driven industrialization, science based education and health care delivery, provision of critical infrastructure, issues relating to women, youths, and the disabled as well as sports as his priorities.

“The explosion did not kill any one but injured four persons among whom one has his arm completely ripped off by the blast”, Aminu told Premium Times.
An official of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Maiduguri, Abbas Gava, also confirmed the incident saying “the explosive that went off may have been concealed in some of the piled up sacks of charcoal. But thank God the damage did not claim any life except four persons that got injured with one losing the whole of his hand”.

A former governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako, who was impeached by the state Assembly for gross financial fraud, has returned to Nigeria from a self-imposed exile.
Mr. Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari, were impeached by the Assembly under Speaker Ahmadu Fintiri.
Shortly after his removal, Mr. Nyako fled Nigeria amid speculations he was to be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Mr. Nyako’s supporters believed the impeachment was orchestrated by the Presidency as it came shortly after the governor wrote a scathing letter accusing former President Goodluck Jonathan of carrying out genocide against the people of the north east.
The former governor left Nigeria for Germany, then England, where he had been since July 2014.
Although his deputy, Mr. Ngilari, succeeded in upturnimg his impeachment in court, Mr. Nyako was not so lucky as a Federal High Court sitting in Yola last week dismissed his suit challenging his ouster.
Mr. Nyako returned to Nigeria Saturday afternoon and was received by friends and associates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja. Some of those who received the former governor were Senators Binta Garba, Abdullahi Adamu and Danjuma Goje.
Mr. Nyako played a prominent role in the emergence of the new governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Jibrilla.
He directed his supporters who formed the majority of the membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Adamawa State to vote for Mr. Jibrilla in the two primary elections held in the state; first during the bye election (before it was cancelled by the court), and in the run-up to the 2015 election.
After his victory in the April 11 election, Governor Jibrilla said he remained loyal to Mr. Nyako. To prove his loyalty, he appointed three core loyalists of Mr. Nyako as part of the five appointments he made shortly after he was sworn in Friday.
Mr. Jibrilla announced the appointment of Umar Bindir as the Secretary to the government, SSG, Abdulrahman Jimeta, as Chief of Staff, Abdullahi Bakari as Principal Private Secretary, and Ahmed Mahmood as the Director of Protocol, while Yohanna Mathias was appointed as the Chief press Secretary.

Breaking: President Buhari & Vice President Osinbajo Declare Their Assets, But Not Public

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have declared their assets, as required by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Just like the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo, their asset isn’t made public, NewsWireNGR recalls that late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua had publicly declared his assets on assumption of office.
A statement signed by Garba Shehu, head, President Muhammadu Buhari Media Team Aso Rock Villa Abuja on Saturday said “the Code of Conduct Bureau on Friday acknowledged the submission of President Buhari’s and Vice President Osinbajo’s assets declaration form submitted separately on May 28, and signed for by the organisation’s Chairman, Sam Saba. President Buhari’s Declarant ID was given as: ‘President: 000001/2015?.
The Nigerian Constitution states in Chapter VI Section 140, that a person elected to the office of President shall not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in the Constitution.
By declaring their assets, President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo may have not only fulfilled the requirements of the Nigerian Constitution, but also fulfilled the first of their many campaign promises.
While seeking election into the highest office in the land, the President had promised Nigerians that he would publicly declare his assets as soon as he took over government.

The attack came less than a day after Boko Haram militants launched an intense grenade attack on the city, killing about 17 people just hours after Nigeria swore in Muhammadu Buhari as its new president.
Mr. Buhari has vowed to confront Boko Haram, a deadly jihadist group responsible for several thousands of deaths.
At his inauguration, the president said he will relocate the military command structure to Maiduguri until the group is subdued.

Buhari warns airport officials, others, against stopping ex-Ministers from travelling
President Muhammadu Buhari says officials of past administrations including ministers are entitled to their full rights and privileges under the constitution, and must not be subjected to any undue harassment and intimidation at the airports or at other points of entry and exit.
“We have not banned anyone from travelling,” Mr. Buhari said in a statement Saturday.
Responding to some cases of “V.I.P stoppages” at the airports as reported to him on Saturday, President Buhari directed all agencies under the government to run their affairs in full compliance with extant rules, regulations and the constitution of the country.
“Unless otherwise directed by the courts, no law-abiding citizens should be barred from travelling abroad,” he said.
“We must treat fellow citizens with courtesy and respect. Officials at the borders and other points of entry and exit should conduct their affairs in strict compliance with due process. No one has my permission to bar anyone from travelling abroad,” the president said.

Buhari to earn N14 million as annual salary, allowances
Nigeria’s new president, Muhammadu Buhari, and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, will earn annual basic salaries of N3, 514, 705 and N3, 031, 572.50 respectively, according to the information on the website of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The RMAFC is statutorily empowered by Section 32 (d) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution to determine the remuneration appropriate for political office holders.
Apart from the salaries, the president is entitled to various regular allowances like: Hardship, 50 per cent of the basic salary – N1, 757, 350.50; consistency – 250 per cent, N8, 786, 762.50.
Other regular allowances like motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance, special assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment, utilities, security and Newspapers and periodicals are to be provided by the government – not paid for.
Allowances like accommodation, furniture, and duty tour allowance (per night), estacode (per night) and medical allowances are also to be provided as requested.
The allowances are paid periodically, some monthly, a few once in four years. Duty Tour Allowance and Estacode depend on travels.
For instance, furniture allowance to other cadre of officials, like ministers and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is given once in four years. The President and Vice President are not paid furniture allowance as they are provided for.
When all allowances payable each month are added, President Buhari will take home N1, 171,568.33 each month, and N14, 058, 820.00 yearly.
Vice President Osinbajo will receive N1, 010, 524. 17 monthly, and N12, 126,290.00 per annum.

The president’s severance gratuity is N10, 544, 115, that is 300 per cent of basic; he is entitled to a leave allowance of N351, 470. 50, (10 per cent of basic salary) and an optional motor vehicle loan of N14, 058, 820, at 400 per cent to be repaid before the expiration of the president’s tenure.
Mr. Osinbajo will also get allowances such as motor vehicle, feeding and maintenance, special assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment utility, security, newspaper and periodicals.
While the number two man’s hardship, consistency, severance gratuity and leave allowance are at N1, 515, 786.25; N7, 578, 931.25; N9, 094, 717.50 and N303, 157.25 respectively.
He will also receive a motor vehicle loan at 400 per cent of his basic salary which is N12, 126, 290; to be repaid at the expiration of his tenure.
The salaries and allowances are drawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund.
The current salary structure and allowances were fixed by the RMAFC in 2007.
Before the review, the basic annual salary of the then president, Olusegun Obasanjo, was N2,586,000 per annum, while that of his deputy, Atiku Abubakar was N1,938,000 the same as that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Senate President, both heads of the judiciary and the legislature.
This was as a result of the review of the salary structure and associated allowances for the top federal public office holders earlier carried out by the National Salaries and Wages Commission.

My Deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu and I, deeply appreciate our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, that provided us the platform to join the wind of change that is blowing across Nigeria. We salute the good people of Benue who massively voted us into office. We are humbled by your sacrifices and are mindful of the great task ahead. We pay tribute to past and present leaders of the state for the many achievements of the past 39 years. The most recent of these is Rt. Honourable, Dr. Gabriel Torwua Suswam, my predecessor, his Deputy, Chief Steven Lawani and members of the team that ran the state in the past eight years. 4. As midwives to the vision of a new Benue, the major policy thrust of my administration rests on five major pillars:
Good governance and revenue security;
Agricultural-Driven Industrialization;
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM)-Based Education and Health Services;
Investment in critical infrastructure; and
Promoting gender equality and empowering women, youth, sports, and persons with disabilities.
The details of our development agenda will be made public in due course as part of our commitment to a collective ownership of the vision for a new Benue.
5. The expected outcome of our policy thrust as outlined above, will be an inclusive, accountable and result oriented government. In partnership with local communities we will ensure the security of lives and property in the state. We will do everything possible to contain attacks on our people by criminal gangs and herdsmen. We will through appropriate legislation, encourage those with livestock in the state to keep them on ranches as a way of forestalling incessant clashes with farmers. We will also move decisively against those of our youths and their patrons who have chosen a living out of unbridled acts of terror and thuggery. Government will no longer be a shield for these youths and those who patronize them. Whoever they may be and no matter how powerful, they will be brought to account. We call on all unlawfully armed persons who have been terrorizing innocent citizens to immediately surrender their arms, be free and get integrated into our reform program, or we shall pursue them down to their holes.
6. In agriculture, our expected outcome is to extend our calling as ‘Food Basket of the Nation”, to include processing of agro-products. We will do this by developing the sector through the introduction of simple technology driven systems and targeted interventions involving agro-processing, improved marketing channels, inputs and rural infrastructure. Education will be promoted as the backbone of the Benue vision focusing on quality, access and relevance at all levels. We will deliberately promote mathematics education in order to produce a generation of students whose numeracy skills will in the near future will translate to excellence in science and engineering. We will nurture and attract exceptional talents to ensure that our State University and other tertiary institutions are hubs of excellence not only primed to sustain our development but repositioned major players in the production of knowledge for the state and the nation. In accordance with our APC manifesto, modalities will be put in place to provide free, qualitative and compulsory education up to secondary school level as soon as the economic fortunes of the state improve.
7. Our vision will not be realized by chance, we will remain focused and not be distracted. We will advance in boldness and hit the ground running. Distinguished citizens of our great state, it is common knowledge that our state has a huge debt burden which we shall verify and disclose as soon as possible. This includes unpaid salaries and allowances as well as retirement benefits. With your understanding, patience and support, we will turn this situation around. We will be prudent, we will be efficient and we will be transparent and creative in the management of resources in our development agenda.
8. Thus the clarion call to our farmers and people in the rural areas is that we must attain the number one food producing state of the nation. Together, we can transform the rural landscape, create more jobs, wealth, and opportunities as well as improve rural habitats and livelihoods. To our women and vulnerable groups, we will together, strive to reduce gender inequality and other vulnerabilities that encourage poverty and limit potentials. To the youths of the state, you will no longer be dispensable tools in the hands of irresponsible politicians . We will commit to giving each of you the highest quality training in mathematics, sciences, technology and innovation as well as creative arts to position you for tomorrow as key drivers of the Benue vision. Sports will be utilized as a veritable tool for youth empowerment as talents will be trapped and given an enabling environment to develop up to the global stage.
Fellow citizens of Benue State, my heart bleeds for Benue workers and pensioners as they have suffered untold hardship as the issues of their salaries, wages and allowances have become a major challenge. We shall immediately make arrangements to determine and verify our indebtedness and work towards the immediate payment of outstanding workers’ salaries and allowances of pensioners. The Bible states that the worker deserves his wages, on that score government must ensure that wages are paid as at when due.
To teachers at all levels in the state, you are the key to unlocking the major challenges in education. We will not only support you but rebuild the school system and enable you to take our schools to the next level. To Benue citizens in diaspora, we will engage and challenge you continuously to buy into and own the Benue vision. The state must benefit from your wealth of experiences, suite of competencies and skills. We will partner and provide a place for you in the rebirth of the state. To our entrepreneurs, civil society organisations and other non-state actors, investors and other multilateral development partners, we open our arms to a warm embrace of opportunities that will be mutually rewarding and beneficial to all.
9. My dear compatriots, as your governor, I pledge to govern with the fear of God. This shall translate to core values including transparency, accountability, fairness, justice, humility, selflessness, disciple, integrity, integration, forgiveness and reconciliation which shall engender peace and unity as well as make development inevitable. We shall have zero tolerance for corruption and any government official who misappropriates public funds will be punished. Our philosophy is that which regards public office as an opportunity to serve and not that for amassing illegal wealth. Those who wish to make money shall be encouraged to get into the private sector and do business.
Our administration will promote growth and development of our state in accordance with the democratic principles of due consultation, full disclosure, transparency, inclusive participation, responsive leadership and the rule of law. Unfruitful expenditures will be discouraged, and never, never again will individuals be allowed to corner the commonwealth of the state to become their personal estate because they are privileged to be in political governance. I assure you that we will use every legal means to recover such treasures annexed from the state. On our part, we promise to wholeheartedly sweat and to toil in your service to the meaningful satisfaction of all such that by the time we leave office, Benue people will be on their knees thanking God and celebrating enhancement in their lives and environments.
We will constitute a participatory government where citizens will have their say and way. We will work to allay the fear of marginalisation of the minority ethnic groups in the state be you Akweya, Etulo, Nyifon, Ufia, Agatu, Jukun, or Hausa, you wll enjoy the rights and privileges of the other better known Tiv, Idoma and Igede. The Igbo, Yoruba, Edo, Nupe, Ebira, Ijaw and all other groups who are resident in the state will be treated as stakeholders. By the grace of God, Benue will become greater and we will all share in her greatness.
10. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we have gone past the time for politicking. I am the governor of those who voted for me. I am the governor of those who did not vote for me. I am the governor of those who did not vote. I am governor of all. For this reason, we extend our hand of partnership to all and especially political leaders across the divides.

Let me specially convey our very sincere appreciation to the Chief Judge of Benue State, the Honourable Justice Iorhemen Hwande for performing this constitutional and sacred duty that has conferred on Engineer Benson Abounu and my humble self, the authority of Deputy Governor and Governor respectively. My Lord, we thank you and appreciate the commendable manner you have led the Benue judiciary to the sterling and enviable status it has attained in this country. We also acknowledge the contributions of the Speaker and all members of the Benue State House of Assembly for their contributions to the development of the state.
12. It is pertinent to commend the national leaders of the APC, especially Senator Dr. George Akume and his dear wife, Chief Mrs. Regina Akume, JP, for their vision and passion for Benue. The contributions of Chief Audu Ogbeh, another illustrious son of the state to the change movement must also be acknowledged and appreciated just like the efforts of the APC state chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro, and all members of the state executive committee of the party. We will not forget the contributions of Chief Akange Audu, Professor Steve Ugbah, and Chief Mike Iordye, whose noble contributions to the development of the party have brought us this hour of glory. We also acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of Distinguished Senator Chief Barnabas Gemade to our victory. I commend all those who have won various elections to serve the people of Benue in different capacities. This group contributed immensely to the collective victory of the party. My appreciation will be incomplete if I fail to commend the members of the Ortom/Abounu Campaign Organization led by Professor Ugbah and Strategy Committee led by Professor Dennis Ityavyar, for their diligence and hard work.
For an opposition party to wrestle power from a ruling party is not a picnic in a garden. It has been a long marathon in the desert. We thank you for your resilience. Many who started this journey with us are not here today to witness this glorious moment. Many lost their lives in the course of this journey. Even on Election Day, some were killed and several injured because they resisted the attempts to subvert the will of the people. Once again we sympathize with families who lost loved ones and pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased. Persuasive canvassing of votes remains the most civilized means of soliciting for political power from the electorate. In their memory therefore, let us resolve that, never again will any politician find any attraction in violence and other electoral malpractices as a legitimate means of acquiring democratic power in Benue State.
We have resolved to strive to reform our politics such that power and privilege would no longer shut down the voice of the people. If we must run a government in which everybody is involved; a peoples government, we must put aside personal advantage so that we can feel the pains and see the promise of Benue. It in this regard that I wish to drop all my titles preferring to be addressed as Samuel Ortom. We must give the seat of government back to the people to whom it belongs. To eliminate that distance between the government and the people, the seat of Government in Benue State will no longer be called Government House but Benue Peoples House. This we believe will serve as a constant reminder that we hold our positions of authority in trust for the people and that the people are more important than anything else in a democracy.
Honestly, I always wonder where I would have been without my charming wife, on whose loving shoulders I always received inspiration at very challenging times. From the bottom of my heart I say thank you my baby, Eunice. All members of my family have borne the trauma occasioned by my political participation. I commend my children and grand children all other members of my immediate and extended family for their patience and understanding. I have very reliable friends, who have sacrificed everything to support my ambition. I sincerely appreciate and thank them all.
Before I end this address, let me salute the glorious memory of our heroes and founders of modern Benue; Chief Dr. J.S Tarka, Chief J.C Obande, Chief Apollos Aper Aku and Most Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu. They were great men of vision, and we shall endeavour to build on the foundation they laid for our dear state.
An African proverb counsels that; “if you want to go fast, you go alone but if you want to go far, you go with someone”. I want to go far with all the people of Benue. I am trusting God Almighty that my journey with you to our New Benue will be a fruitful one.

The central message that you should carry back and share with the good people of Benue State is this: You voted for CHANGE and change has come. Today is a milestone in the history of our state. We thank the Almighty God for His grace and for being on our side. My Deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu and I, deeply appreciate our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, that provided us the platform to join the wind of change that is blowing across Nigeria. We salute the good people of Benue who massively voted us into office. We are humbled by your sacrifices and are mindful of the great task ahead. We pay tribute to past and present leaders of the state for the many achievements of the past 39 years. The most recent of these is Rt. Honourable, Dr. Gabriel Torwua Suswam, my predecessor, his Deputy, Chief Steven Lawani and members of the team that ran the state in the past eight years. We are hopeful that you will allow us to tap into your fountain of knowledge and experience as we face the challenges of governance in the state. Whatever you did right will be sustained; and whatever is lacking in what you did shall be boldly corrected.
