Makurdi High Court fixes 31st July,2015 for ruling in a first class chieftaincy lawsuit

A Makurdi High Court presided over by Justice Idodo today adjourned till 31st July,2015 for ruling in a chieftaincy lawsuit  instituted against the Benue state government,Benue state House of Assembly, and the attorney general of the state by Chiefs Goddy Kyereve,Terkula Suswam and others, who had earlier been appointed first class Chiefs in 6 intermediate Tiv Clans of Kwande,Jenmgbagh,Sankera,Jerchira,Makurdi, and Gwer respectively by the immediate past administration of Gabriel Suswam.

In their various arguments and submissions, the counsels representing both parties,Prof Tonny Ijoho,SAN,M.A Agbe,TT Igba,I.S Kajo,Jacob Iorver and others, appearing for the Benue state government asked the court to dismiss the interlocutory motion filed by counsel representing the earlier appointed first class Chiefs,Barrister J.A Anchaver. Anchaver had file the motion asking the court to restrain the defendants from arresting, harassing, and intimidating his clients(earlier appointed first class Chiefs). It will be recalled that the present administration,on coming on board, had issued a radio announcement warning the earlier appointed first class Chiefs not to parade as first class Chiefs,a directive which did not go down well with the 6 earlier appointed first class Chiefs and decided to seek justice in the court of law.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the court session, chief Goddy Igbaraav Kyereve, one the earlier appointed first class Chiefs representing Gwer, said that he was confident that they would get justice at the end of the day, because 'the Tiv people were fully behind them'. Chief Kyereve thanked all those who have shown interest in their struggle to get justice from the judicial arm of government.l
