The incessant flood menace at the Wurukum market in Makurdi,Benue state of Nigeria may soon be a thing of the past according to a contender to the office of the chairman of the market,Mr Simon Shagbaor Waikyo. Mr Waikyo had served as a caretaker chairman of the market between 2004/2005 was conversant with the problems of the market especially the flood menace that has always destroyed traders of the market properties over the years.According to Shagbaor Waikyo, the flood problem was caused as a result of poor sanitation of the market which he said had blocked drainage system thereby preventing free flow of water whenever it reined. He promised to re-introduce a monthly sanitation exercise as he had done before to put the problem to permanent rest if elected as the chairman of the market in the forthcoming elections. Mr Waikyo also promised to bring back the security fee to N200 to alleviate the sufferings of the traders who have complained about multiple levies and taxes under the present Tersoo Kough leadership. Mr Waikyo is said to have the nod of elders of APC in Makurdi local government, including Mr Akange Audu,JT Orkar, and the current caretaker chairman of Makurdi local government,Mr Gbaishima.
