The Nigerian military on Thursday said it has arrested three bomb-making experts in Gombe State.

The Defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, said the bomb experts are suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Mr. Olukolade, a major general, said the suspects were arrested as they searched for soft targets for attack after being dislodged from the stronghold in Sambisa forest and other enclaves.

He said, “Items recovered from the apprehended include a tricycle and materials for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.”

Mr. Olukolade said a cordon and search operation was on-going in certain localities and will be intensified along with mop-up operations in locations where offensive operations are being conducted.

He said the essence of these operations is to apprehend the terrorists dislodged from their sanctuaries and in search of escape routes or resorting to attacking soft targets.

This, he said, was in line with the present development.

The spokesperson also urged the public to be vigilant and to report every suspicious activity within their environs.

“The military is poised to ensure that the on-going operations are duly aligned with security arrangement nationwide towards forestalling any attempt by terrorists or other criminal groups planning to breach security or disrupt the inaugurations activities anywhere in the country,” Mr. Olukolade said.
