Nell Marshall, who was the only survivor of triplets, was born with exomphalos, a condition that means her abdomen did not fully develop in the womb.
This means that her stomach, bowel and liver were born outside her body and she now faces a major operation to put them back inside her.
She was taken from Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary to Freeman Hospital where she underwent a five-and-a-half hour operation.
The surgery to put her organs back inside her will take place in six weeks time when she has had some time to grow and develop.
‘Even though she has been through so much, she’s never given up,’ her mother, 35-year-old Joanne Marshall, told the Chronicle.

Joanne and father Andrew, 45, have spoken of their gratitude to staff at the Freeman Hospital’s Children’s Heart Unit.
